The U.S. vaccination campaign to try to prevent the pandemic H1N1 or swine flu virus from harming people has been a delicate dance for public-health officials and the public alike as the cumbersome vaccine-manufacturing process fails to keep up with demand. Government health officials have been urging the 159 million Americans considered at high risk of complications from swine flu to get a vaccine when it becomes available, but to many frustrated people the message seems more like hurry up and wait. A new poll finds that the majority of adults who’ve tried to get a vaccine for themselves or their children haven’t been able to do so.
